These recent grads have made their way to his residence, which has become a haven of refuge for them, particularly during the warmer months of the year. While he was hospitalized for a lengthy amount of time due to his illness, he received visitors from all over the world. Among those who paid him a visit were people from Bosnia, Germany, Chile, and Australia.

His family members include his sister Jean E. Steele and her husband Harold Steele of Bethany Beach, Delaware and Bonita Springs, Florida; an aunt named Hannah Hickman of Millville, Delaware; and his cousins Dr. J. Robert Parsons and his wife Janet Parsons of Bethany Beach, their son J.R. Parsons and his wife Erica Parsons of Columbia, Maryland; Janet Hickman of Millville, Delaware; Lynn Wood of Parsonsburg, Maryland; children Rachel Wood and Eric Wood
