Tomas Mahon Obituary, Death – Thomas Lon Mahon, who had been a resident of Byron, Illinois, and who passed away on December 4, 2022, did so while he was surrounded by members of his family. He was born in Berwyn, Illinois, on July 21st, 1941, and his birthday is the 21st of July. He was 81. Tom was raised in the western suburbs of Chicago throughout his childhood. 1959 was the year that he graduated from Maine Township High School with his high school diploma.

He wed Jean Wobbe in 1959, and not long after that, the couple established their household in Des Plaines, which is located in Illinois. Tom started his career as a mathematics teacher at the Maine Township High Schools South and East, where he would eventually become the Department Chair. He received his degree in mathematics from Northwestern University, where he also completed his coursework.

He coached both track and field and cross country for a number of years while he was still working as a classroom teacher. Tom was first elected to serve as Treasurer for the City of Des Plaines for a period of four years, and then he was elected to serve as Park District Commissioner for a period of 12 years. Both of these positions require a long-term commitment. Tom spent his retirement years in Ogle County, Illinois, where he eventually met Dorothy Albright and tied the knot with her in 2005. Tom’s move to Ogle County was prompted by his desire to be nearer to his children.

They did a good deal of traveling, were very involved in the Lions Club in Leaf River, Illinois, and were members of the United Church of Byron. Tom’s great-grandfather, Alonzo Thomas Mahon, as well as his grandparents Alonzo Thomas Mahon and Arthur and Virginia Clausen, his brother Scott Clausen, his granddaughters Emily and Lisa, and his great-grandfather all died before Tom did. He is survived by their children Thomas Jr. (Christine), Jane (Jeffrey) Underwood, David (Amber), Donna (Patrick) Jones, James (Jo Ann), Deborah (Larry) Pierce, Julie (James) Chadwick, Robert (Patricia) Albright, as well as by his brother Arthur (Wanda) Clausen, nieces, nephews, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a large number of friends. He is also survived by the children
