Terry VanDerhoff Death, Obituary – Derek VanDerhoff’s father, Terry VanDerhoff, passed away unexpectedly on January 3 due to complications from an undiagnosed disease. We did not waste much time and immediately got on the road to head to New York to visit family there. When we were going through this tough period, it was a great comfort to be able to be surrounded by family members because even though it was difficult for both of us, we had family around. He has never wavered in his support of the goals we have set for ourselves here on the Homestead, and I really appreciate that.
Even though he resided a twelve-hour commute away, he nevertheless made the trip to assist with all of the big projects on the homestead (like butchering). Over the course of the past two weeks, we have talked to a number of people who have conveyed to us how proud he is of us and how he constantly brags to his friends about all of our accomplishments. These conversations have taken place at a number of different places, including restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. He brought a lot to the table for our family, and all of us are going to miss having him around very much. Even though dad was stolen from us far too young, we are going to work hard to live our lives in a way that would make him pleased with how we’ve progressed.
