Susie Brynjolfson Obituary, Death – On January 17, 2023, after a gallant battle, our exceptionally brave, beautiful Susie lost her fight against the dreadful disease of metastatic breast cancer. She passed away surrounded by her family, all of whom were inconsolable. She is survived by her husband Joe, her parents Morris and Dinah Brynjolfson, her mother-in-law Penny Meide, her brother Danny Brynjolfson, her brother and sister-in-law John and Cheri Brynjolfson, along with their sons Sean (20) and Ryan (17), as well as her best friend/sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Matt Peyerl, along with their daughters Elizabeth (21), Katie (18), and B (8). Her aunts and uncles Bernie, Fred, Pat, Dan, Dan, and Mary Kay, along with several of her cousins, are thankful to be a part of her extended family. In addition, her lifelong friends Marian, Paula, Kelley, Teresa, and Sherry are grateful to be a part of her extended family as well.
On Friday, January 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm local time, a Christian burial service will be held in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, North Dakota. On Thursday, January 19, 2023, visitation will be conducted from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, and a Vigil Service and a traditional wake to celebrate Susie’s life will begin at 7:00 pm. In Minot, North Dakota, on December 25th, 1964, Susie was brought into the world by her parents, Morris and Dinah. On that Christmas day, she was a blessing in disguise for her mother and father. Susie attended St. Mary’s Central High School and received her diploma in the year 1983 after relocating to Bismarck at a young age. After completing her undergraduate studies, she continued her education by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Marquette University and a master’s degree in Spanish from Colorado State University.
In 1991, Susie began her career as a teacher of Spanish at Century High School, and since then, she has devoted her entire life to the profession. At Century, where she proudly taught thousands of children over the course of 31 years and where she served as chair of the Foreign Language Department for a number of years, Susie cherished both her students and her colleagues. Susie was selected to act as a teacher’s mentor for the Bismarck Public Schools for a number of years due to the fact that the district values her expertise, enthusiasm, professionalism, and reputation as a teacher. In 2016, she was presented with the National Education Association Award for Excellence in the Classroom.
Whenever Senora B saw one of her students out and about in the community, she would hear shouts of “Senora B” reverberating around Bismarck. The only thing that made her cry during her brief sickness was the realization that she would no longer be able to instruct her students. This was the sole reason why she shed tears. Susie first made the connection with the person who would become her companion and soulmate in the year 1992. The couple wed on November 25, 2005, marking the beginning of their journey through life together. Susie was readily accepted by Joe’s lifelong friends as one of their own after they met her. Susie and Joe considered these close companions to be family.
Susie and Joe visited a number of national parks together, and Susie was also the trip leader for several student exchanges to Spanish-speaking nations. Susie enjoyed traveling. You may find them spending many summer days out on the river, navigating the classic car shows where Joe would show off his most recently rebuilt vehicle, or tending to her flowers all around the yard. They considered it a privilege to serve as godparents to their nieces and nephews, as well as the children of their friends. Susie placed a high priority on the well-being of her family. She loved spending time with her Lynch and Strandemo cousins at family gatherings, and she looked forward to watching Fighting Irish football games with her father and the rest of her family.
