Smitty Smith Obituary, Death – We are heartbroken to learn Smitty Smith of Edelbrock has died away. He was actively involved in editing projects over the previous 30 years and a friend to all who encountered him. The industry will miss him and we are keeping his family in our prayers. Smith, beloved husband, father, grandpa, caretaker, servant and friend was born to Mary Jane Smith on May 18, 1950 in Summerville, SC. God freed him from this earthly realm on August 5, 2022.
Smith commonly known as “Smitty” and “Hat”, graduated from Summerville High School in 1968. During Smitty’s high school years, he had the confidence and aggressiveness to question and criticize a textbook math notion that the teacher reinforced. After exploration, Smitty was confirmed to be right. He furthered his education at Trident Technical College and upon completion of the electrical program, he traveled to DC seeking job.
Realizing he had a family to maintain, Smitty accepted a job in housekeeping at NIH. Believing he just needed to get his foot in the door, Smitty rose from housekeeping to ultimately retiring as Deputy Chief of Electrical Engineering Services where he got multiple awards and plaudits for his devotion and commitment. Smitty eventually met and married the love of his life, Belinda and was actively active in the Brown-Green and the Wilson-Lake family reunion events. There was boundless affection and dedication towards family as Smitty was a sensitive and loving caretaker as evidenced while caring for his mother and uncle amid their fading health.
