Scott Simdorn Obituary, Death – Scott Alan Simdorn, age 64, of Ottertail, Minnesota, passed away in an unexpected and terrible accident on Saturday, January 7, 2023. The accident occurred after he ran his snowmobile into a patch of open water on Otter Tail Lake due to the foggy circumstances that existed at the time. Scott Simdorn was conceived by his parents, Gerald and Carol Betty (Breuer), on September 12th, 1958 and delivered in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Before moving to Otter Tail Lake in 2006, he and his family lived on a farm just outside of Wahpeton, North Dakota.
He was an active student throughout his academic career, culminating in his 1976 graduation from Wyndemere High School. In 1979, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, and graduated with an associate’s degree in Electronics. After receiving his degree, he began his career at Minn-Dak, where he remained for more than ten years before transitioning into sales. After working for Swanson Flo Systems for almost 25 years, he decided to start his own business, which he named Control Dynamics. His company was eventually acquired by Swanson Flo Systems.
He wed Jeanette “Netty” in 1993, and almost immediately after the ceremony, he started spending his life not just with her but also with her children. Even though the majority of people are aware that being a stepfather is a challenging job, he never once viewed it in that light. Instead, he consistently expressed his gratitude for the fact that he was given an entire family in a single day.
Upon reaching retirement age, he began his career as President of the Otter Tail Lakes Property Owner’s Association, began his hobby of collecting automobiles, and joined the Classic Car Clubs that were associated with each of these hobbies. However, his primary retirement occupation was that of being known as “Papa Scotty” and being a neighbor and friend who was always up for a good time.
The things that people will remember most about Scott are his gregarious nature and his uncanny ability to quickly establish a connection with even the most random of individuals. He always knew someone who knew someone who was related to, had worked with, or had previously been employed by someone you knew. He was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the accordion, concertina, and organ. His favorite kind of music was the polka, which he referred to as “mental sunshine.”
He was a musician for many years and was a member of a number of bands. More recently, he enjoyed playing polka whenever he had the chance to perform with other polka enthusiasts. Scott cherished his life on the water and delighted in spending time on the pontoon while watching his grandchildren enjoy themselves in the water and on the beach. He was an active fisherman throughout the winter months, and his favorite time to fish was during the “night bite” hours in the fish house with all of his friends. He was recognized for his ability to fix just about anything and spent many hours maintaining the functionality of his vintage automobiles.
