Ronald Fortado Obituary, Death – Ronald Furtado, 71, of Fall River, previously of Tiverton and Taunton, died on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side after a valiant 15-month struggle with glioblastoma. Ron Furtado was born in Fall River and raised there as the son of the late Alfred M. and Lucy D. (Tavares) Furtado. For 49 years, he was the devoted husband of Janice F. (Trenholme) Furtado. Ronald spent the last 36 years as the Director of Fleet Logistics at Naval Station Newport. Ron was a licensed electrician who had worked in the electrical industry. He was an Elks member from Fall River, as well as a Cub Scout Leader and SWS Hockey Coach. Ron enjoyed old vehicles and spent a lot of time in his 1964 Corvette.
He left two sons, Matthew R. Furtado and his wife Sarah of Framingham, MA, and Michael R. Furtado and his wife Meghan of Foxboro, MA, in addition to his wife. He is also survived by two cousins, Sandra Pacheco and Dolores Mauro, as well as his sister-in-law Jean Gauthier (Pete), brother-in-law Bruce Trenholme (Cheryl), and other nieces and nephews. The family would also want to thank all of the nurses and personnel at Dana Farber Cancer Institute who assisted him with his treatment over the last 15 months, particularly Dr. David Reardon, Jennifer Stefanik, and our devoted niece Danielle Wright. We’d also like to thank the nurses and CNAs at Southcoast Hospice for their support. Visitation will be held Monday, December 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., Fall River. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Road, Fall River, at 10:00 a.m. The funeral will be held privately.
