Since 2014, Mrs. Brown has been a member of the Board of Education for the District 9 schools. After more than 30 years of service as an educator, Mrs. Brown took her well-deserved retirement from SCS in 2002. Dr. Del Phillips, who is the director of education for Sumner County, said that Pat Brown devoted her entire life to promoting educational opportunities in the county.

“She had a unique interest for students that needed a bit of additional encouragement to succeed in the classroom and she devoted a lot of her time and energy to helping those students. She never lost sight of the fact that the pupils’ interests should come first. We will miss her in a significant way.” According to Tim Brewer, the chairman of the Sumner County School Board, “Pat Brown provided a unique viewpoint to our School Board from the point of view of a veteran educator as well as a passion for the Gallatin community.”

“Along with the rest of the Gallatin community, the Sumner County Board of Education and Sumner County Schools is saddened by her passing. The meeting of the Sumner County Board of Education that was scheduled to take place on January 17, 2023 has been called off due to the untimely passing of Mrs. Brown.
