Matthew McGrath Obituary, Death – On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, Matthew A. McGrath, 65, a lifelong resident of Concord, passed away suddenly at home. He was Catherine (Cooper) McGrath’s loving husband for 17 years. The late Leo McGrath, Jr. and Elizabeth (Lynah) McGrath’s son, Matt, was born in Cambridge on March 16, 1957. He was a proud graduate of Middlesex School in Concord, where he played basketball in a fiercely competitive game. After graduating, he continued on to Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, where he obtained a degree in history. Matt joined the US Marine Corps after graduating from Drew and served valiantly there from 1979 until 1984. He earned the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the rank of First Lieutenant.
Matt formerly had positions with Shuttle America’s ground crew and the USS Constitution Museum. He was a devoted member of the Patriot Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers’ Society as well as the 1812 Marine Guard for the USS Constitution. Matt was a voracious reader, a die-hard Celtics supporter, and a fan of metal detecting. His two daughters, Courtney Cronkhite and her husband Justin of Whitefield, Maine, and Sheryl Landry and her husband Andrew of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, as well as his grandson Abe, his brother Owen McGrath and his wife Ruby of Newark, California, one niece, Helen, and three nephews, Leo, Thomas, and Joseph, will all miss him dearly in addition to his wife.
