Justin Monk Death, Obituary – It is with a heavy heart that I write of the passing of SGT Justin Monk, who became famous as the subject of a meme when this picture became widely disseminated on the internet. It was with this picture that he became the focus of the meme. I will miss him very, very much. SGT Monk lost his fight against a rare kind of neurological cancer that he had been facing for the previous three years; he passed away on January 15, 2023. He had been fighting this cancer for the previous three years. During his time in the Marine Corps, he served as a 0311 and took part in two separate deployments to Afghanistan with the 2/3.
Both of these deployments took place in Afghanistan. Afghanistan served as the destination for each of these journeys. As a result of his passing, he is survived by a number of people, the most important of whom are his wife and their three daughters. I pray that the ocean will always be to your rear and that you’ll always be surrounded by soothing winds, Marine!
