John Hayes Obituary, Death – John Hayes, a resident of Redding Ridge, Connecticut, passed away on December 22, 2022 in his old family residence. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing. John was born and raised in Connecticut. He received his primary education in the public schools of Waterbury, Connecticut. Subsequently, he attended the Fairfield College Preparatory School, Yale University (where he graduated in 1954), and the Yale Graduate Program in City Planning.
In the beginning of John’s professional career, he was given the position of Planning Staff Director at Gates & Ford, an architectural and planning firm located in New Canaan, Connecticut. During this time, he was in charge of preparing the first town plans for the communities of Southbury, Newtown, and Bethel. In the years that followed, John assumed the position of Planning and Zoning Director for the Town of Darien. During this time, he was responsible for developing the town’s first comprehensive town plan and supervising a number of special studies carried out within the region for the Southwestern Regional Planning Agency.
In addition, he was in charge of developing the town’s zoning ordinances. In the end, John established “City, Town and Regional Planning Associates,” a consulting firm that focuses on land use planning and environmental planning. Throughout the course of his professional life, John worked as a planning consultant for the municipalities of Bethany, Easton, Weston, and Redding. John’s most recent projects include the Town Plans of Conservation and Development for the towns of Easton (2007) and Redding (2008), as well as the creation of the Incentive Housing Plan for the town of Redding, which was adopted in 2014. These are just a few of the projects that John worked on in the most recent years.
Being a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Redding, California, he held the position of lector for a considerable amount of time. Additionally, he was instrumental in the facilitation of a plan that ensured the preservation of the original church structure, which was referred to as Mercy Hall, when new construction was proposed in the year 2000. John was selfless with all of his time and energy, and he worked tirelessly on behalf of others without the desire for recognition. As a result, the Reverend William Lori, Bishop of Bridgeport, presented John and his wife, Florence, with the Saint Augustine Medal of Service in 2009. Both John and Florence accepted the award.
