Joey was known for having a very large heart. His life was defined by his devotion to his wife and children, his enthusiasm for the work he did, his wish to instill self-assurance in women, and his generosity toward the many causes that were near and dear to his heart. Joey, the founder of JACOB, is responsible for the creation of one of the most recognizable women’s fashion brands in Canada. She has dressed multiple generations of Canadian women. Throughout the course of his career, he was a mentor to aspiring business owners and served on the boards of directors of several charitable organizations. Through the Odette and Joey Basmaji Foundation, he was able to give back to those in need, particularly women’s and children’s causes, as well as causes supporting cancer and heart disease research.
His family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who helped him receive such high-quality care at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the CHUM, both of which are affiliated with the MUHC. They have requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Joey Basmaji Memorial Fund at the MUHC Foundation by anyone who wishes to do so. In his honor, a one-of-a-kind project that focuses on maintaining healthy heart function will be developed.
His memorial service will be held at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex on February 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. The address of the complex is 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont (Quebec) H2V 2P9. Everyone who has been moved in some way by Joey’s extraordinary life is welcome to attend this memorial service. After the liturgical ceremony, the family would like to extend an invitation for you to join them for a simple meal and a time of reminiscing about this extraordinary man.
