Jack Hayford Obituary, Death – On January 8, Pastor Jack Hayford, who was the founder of The King’s University and Seminary (TKU) and chancellor emeritus, passed away in his home in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. He had 88 years under his belt. After having supper with his wife, Valarie, and having a conversation with one of his grandchildren the night before, according to his family, he passed away quietly in his sleep in the early hours of the morning.
In addition to establishing TKU in 1997, he served as the founding pastor of Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California, as President of The Foursquare Church from 2004 to 2009, as a best-selling author of more than fifty books, and as the songwriter of more than five hundred songs, including “Majesty.” Today, while we lament his passing, we rejoice in the fact that a great leader in God’s kingdom has returned home. We are aware that this amazing worshipper and servant is currently participating in the most magnificent worship service that can possibly be imagined.
The race that Pastor Jack was running is now over, and he has successfully crossed the finish line. It makes me sad to think that we won’t have the chance to see one other again on this side of paradise. But I came away from those happy times when our tracks met and we ran side by side with such a sense of encouragement and inspiration to keep going in the right direction and finish the race.
He took the time to observe a novice runner, encourage them, and lay down core principles that were given by God to enable faithful advancement. When I was floundering and failing, he slowed down and reached out to help me. He brought me to locations where I could find forgiveness and healing, as well as restoration and refreshment. He pushed me to believe in God for larger things and increased the pace at which I was working. When it seemed as though God was guiding them into uncharted area, he brought proof of the direction they should be going. And he put me in contact with a large number of other wonderful brothers and sisters who would each play an important part in supervising and pastoring my leadership. We give you thanks, Heavenly Father, for the gift of Pastor Jack Hayford.
