Hoda Zaki Obituary, Death – In East Islip, New York, on October 13, 2011, Hoda, who was formerly known as Abushady, passed away at the age of 84. Hoda was the youngest of three children to be born to Anna (née Bamford), who was renowned as a poet, publisher, scientist, and professor of medicine at the University of Alexandria, and Dr. Ahmed Zaki Abushady, who was recognized as a professor of medicine at the University of Alexandria. Hoda’s birthday is October 2nd, and she was born in Alexandria, Egypt. With 1946, the Abushady family made the journey from Egypt to the United States in the hopes of beginning a fresh life there.
They had traveled by ship and had arrived in New York Harbor in April of the same year. Because of her field of work, Hoda eventually became interested in photography. It was during her tenure as a WAVE in the United States Navy (1952–1956) that she began her career as a news photographer. During this time, she made history by becoming the first native-born Egyptian to serve in this capacity. Hoda was a long-time member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and her work has been recognized with a number of awards and published in a wide range of publications, such as LIFE magazine and a great number of other periodicals.
In addition to her many travels, Hoda was also an outstanding artist in her own right. The heartbreaking news about Hoda Zaki’s passing has caused me to feel an overwhelming sense of loss.
Although she was well-known for her job as a tailor, I perceived her to be so much more than that in her entire being.
Back in the day, when we were both much younger, she was always so generous and kind to me that she would help me with my dance.
Hoda, her sister, and their mother were all talented dancers, as was their grandmother before them. Hoda proceeded on in the same direction as them.
When it came to dancing baladi with Melaya, Hoda shone brightest when she was teaching others her moves and dancing herself, especially when it came to dancing baladi with other people.
Sweet Hoda, may you rest in peace, and please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the rest of Hoda’s family.
