Doug Orr Death, Obituary – The club has been put through an amazing amount of anguish as a result of the passing of club veteran Doug Orr, who was 92 years old when he died away today. Since Doug has been a dependable member of the club for almost to six decades now, he has established quite a name for himself over that period. Both in 1978, when he was presented with a silver medal for being elected President of the club, and in 1999, when he was presented with a silver medal for participating in the Senior Rinks competition that was held in Ayr, he was honored for his achievements and presented with silver medals.
Both of these medals bear the inscription “Silver.” Each of these occasions took place in Scotland as their respective location. When there was essential maintenance work that needed to be done on the greens, he was never too far away because he worked at the club as both the Green Keeper and the Green Ranger. During his tenure there, he held both of these positions. Doug was a great character and a gentleman who had a tremendous presence on the green with his size 13 shoes and size 6 bowls.
