Dawn Soderstrom Obituary, Death – Dawn M. Soderstrom, who lived in East Dundee, died at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin on December 23, 2022. She was 57 years old. She was born on September 15, 1965, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dawn has lived in the Dundee area for the last 21 years. Dawn worked in the Village of Schaumburg’s Finance Department for more than 30 years before she retired. Dawn used to be a member of the Carpentersville Rebekah Lodge. She and her husband were also active members of the I.O.O.F. Century Logde # 492 (Oddfellows) in “Old Carpentersville.”
Dawn cared a lot about animals and was a strong voice for their rescue. Her survivors include her sons Jon (Charlotte) Picardi and Justice Soderstrom, her grandson Raphael Picardi, her mother Irene (the late Bart) Wiefering, her father Tom (Kim) Szatkowski, and her sisters Amy Szatkowski and Denise (Leslie) Olson. Her mom is still alive, too. Dawn is remembered by the in-laws of her husband, as well as her own Soderstrom in-laws, a number of nieces and nephews, and a lot of great and many friends.
Dawn had signed up to be an organ donor with Gift of Hope. Jeremy did what Dawn asked, and she later became an organ donor. This is all in line with her soft heart, generous spirit, and love of people and service. After she has finished giving, she will be cremated, as was her wish. On the afternoon of Sunday, January 15, 2023, from noon to 6:00 P.M., a memorial service was held to honor her life at the Dundee VFW Post #2298, which is at 117 S. First Street in West Dundee.
