David Castro Obituary, Death – Today, Gerald Wayne Williams admitted his role in the murder of my son, David Castro, and took full responsibility for his actions. He was given a prison sentence of 30 years, with the possibility of parole after only 15 years. There is no amount of time that could bring David back. Not even hundreds of years. When we agreed to this settlement, it was critical to us that Williams, who has a history of committing several crimes, be removed from the community. We wanted to avoid going through the ordeal all over again in court, so that was another aspect that went into our choice to accept the plea deal.

We are grateful to District Attorney Kim Ogg and Alycia Harvey, the committed prosecutor who worked on this case under her supervision. We are grateful to the Houston Police Department investigators who, under the direction of Chief Troy Finner, put together a compelling case, which resulted in the defendant pleading guilty. We are especially grateful to the City of Houston, which contacted Crime Stoppers of Houston Stoppers with more than one hundred tips and assisted in locating Williams in an unprecedentedly short amount of time. During the past 18 months, you have developed a relationship with my son David. You think of him as a native Houstonian and lament the loss of his contribution to our town together with us.

I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who has shown assistance throughout this ordeal. The past 18 months have been incomprehensible and something that no one should ever have to go through. I am making a personal appeal to each and every one of you to follow David’s example and contribute to the improvement of our planet by performing acts of kindness. Even though carrying out those deeds won’t bring David back to life, they will keep his memory alive and contribute to making the world a better place than it would be otherwise. David believed in us. He was committed to improving himself to the point where he could provide the highest level of service to others around him.
