Daniel R. Hale Obituary, Resident Of Ashland Dies At Age 63 - Death

Daniel R. Hale Obituary, Death – On Sunday, January 15, 2023, early in the morning, Daniel R. Hale, 63, a resident of Ashland, passed away in the OhioHealth Hospital there. He was born on May 19, 1959, in the Ohio city of Elyria, the son of Edward O. and Carol L. (née Hicks) Hale. Dan received his diploma from Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky. Dan attended the University of Akron in the years after finishing high school, where he initially earned a bachelor’s degree in education before going on to get his master’s degree.

He married the love of his life, formerly known as Tamara R. Dorsey, on August 22, 1981. Dan began his professional life by working as a teacher in Cambridge. He relocated to Ashland County in 1986. He spent more than 33 years teaching English at the Ashland County West Holmes Career Center until retiring in 2019. He quickly went back to work, this time as an employee at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. He didn’t stay retired for very long.

Throughout his tenure at Cambridge, Dan was a proud football coach and official. He also spent some time coaching baseball and soccer in Ashland. Dan has a lengthy professional career. Prior to joining Ashland Christian Church, where he later became a member, he attended Park Street Brethren. He pretended to be Santa Claus to entertain little children, merely to see the delight on their faces. He has a variety of skills. Dan was a voracious reader and loved taking his son fishing.

Dan Hale was a devout Christian and an honest man who always began each day by reading from the Bible. He gave up something in order to give others a better chance. Dan performed quiet acts of altruism with the utmost humility and without expecting reward. The small height of this man did not reflect the immensity of his heart or the intensity of his love for his fellow human. Dan maintained a positive outlook throughout his life, and when challenges arrived, he was able to collect his thoughts and put his parents’ advice to use: improvise, adapt, and overcome.

His devoted mother, Mrs. Carol Hale of Ashland, his sister, Lynn Myers of Ashland, his mother-in-law, Shirley Dorsey of Fairlawn, his brother-in-law, Ken (Cynthia) Dorsey Jr. of Fairlawn, and a number of nieces and nephews will all miss him greatly. Among those who have passed away before Dan are his father, the Reverend Edward O. Hale, his wife of 31 years, Mrs. Tamara R. Hale, who left this world on November 27, 2012, his daughter, Rebekah A. Hale, who died suddenly on October 22, 2019, and his father-in-law, Kenneth E. Dorsey Sr.
