Constable Vernon Death, Obituary – I am saddened to inform you that retired Senior Constable Vernon (Vern) Lawrence FREEBORN #3886 passed away on January 4, 2023. I am writing to inform you of his demise. I am really sorry to have to break this news to you, but it is what it is. Vern submitted his application to join the Ontario Provincial Police on April 8, 1969, when he was 33 years old. He was accepted into the force. Vern was given his first duty at the Burlington Detachment after he joined the military.
On February 17, 1974, he was transferred to the Identification Unit of the Burlington District Headquarters. After that, on March 29, 1976, he once more reported for duty at the Detachment where he had previously served. Vern went back to work at the Burlington DHQ Identification Unit on June 13, 1977, and he remained working there until the day that he eventually resigned on December 31, 1997. Vern worked there till the end of his career. After originally becoming a member of the OPP Veterans Association’s Burlington Chapter, Vern went on to attain the status of Life Member within the OPP Veterans Association.
When he passed away, Retired Senior Constable Vern Freeborn had been retired for the previous 25 years and was 87 years old at the time of his passing.
Please accept my sincere condolences on behalf of myself, as well as the entire Freeborn family and all of their friends. I ask that God grants you the peace that passes all understanding, Vern. There are no plans to hold a memorial service in his honor at this time. Krista, the couple’s daughter, is one of the people who will remember Vernon after his wife Marion has passed away.
Instead of sending flowers or other customary tokens of condolence, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in the honor of the deceased.
