Redden Death, Obituary – The bereaved family members and friends of “one of the world’s Greatest Men and Stagehands,” who went away not too long ago, have the IATSE Local 12’s sincerest condolences. “One of the world’s Greatest Men and Stagehands” passed away not too long ago. The death occurred not too long ago of Rich Horton, who was more popularly known by his number one nickname. Rich will be in our thoughts and prayers for the rest of our lives, and we won’t be able to stop talking about or thinking about him no matter how much time passes.

Rich will never find himself in a position other than “smack dab in the middle of things” when it comes to being the center of attention. The camaraderie that you find within IATSE is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life. His wedding to Mary Schukei took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland on February 8, 1964. On that particular day, the ceremony took place. The event was carried out in precisely the way it had been planned. At the time that they were celebrating their anniversary, they had been married for a combined total of 58 years.
This sum takes into account Richard’s cumulative 23 years of experience working as a heavy equipment operator for Shaw Land Leveling, Burr Land Leveling, and the City of Hastings. Both Shaw Land Leveling and Burr Land Leveling can be found in Hastings; the former was established there, and the latter was established there. His first job was with Shaw Land Leveling, where he worked for the better part of a decade before moving on to other opportunities.
Richard handed in his resignation from his position as an employee of the City of Hastings in January of 2008, and almost immediately afterward, he started volunteering his time to help local farmers harvest their crops. Those farmers had a lot of respect for Richard’s efforts and expressed their gratitude to him. The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland, where he was a member of the congregation, was his primary place of worship, and he attended services there on a regular basis. In addition to this, he was an active member and participant in the activities of the Eagle’s Club, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus, all of which he belonged to and was involved in. His enthusiasm for these activities was contagious.
